Who is DataUkko?
My name is Samu Niemelä, and I have worked in data and analytics for over 10 years. Originally, I planned to work as a software developer but accidentally drifted into reporting and databases. I thought I would work with this ’data thing’ for a while and then return to software development. Well, here I am, still in this ’temporary’ gig—and I’m glad for that! Nowadays, I work at a company called Zure as the Data & AI Domain Lead, focusing on what data platforms offer and how to leverage them in organizations. My background is deeply rooted in Microsoft technology, and I continue to focus on Microsoft Azure and the Fabric offering within the data landscape. I’ve also worked with other groundbreaking solutions like Snowflake, and I’m always interested in technologies and phenomena that shape the entire market.
What is this?
DataUkko came to life in the Fall 2022 while I was on parental leave and exploring something new. I set up a sole proprietorship as a hobby and did small projects under it. The biggest takeaway was gaining an understanding of how to set up and manage this type of business. For now, it serves as a blog platform where I share my experiences working with data from various perspectives. Currently, I am working closely with Microsoft Fabric at Zure, so this blog will offer insights into the highs and lows of using this new and shiny tool from my perspective.
Why should I care?
I mean you don´t 😃 but my sincere hope for these posts is that someone might avoid some pitfalls, gain new insights, or learn something new—just as I’ve learned from others who take the time to share their knowledge.
